I Got 99 Problems but a Beach Ain’t One

99 Problems

The infamous White team from our Sunday league was a solid contender all season long, with some great jumpers on their team they were able to bring a whole new level to the idea of “Bump, Set, Spike”. While there were hopes from other teams that the playoffs would yield a different outcome, 99 Problems was able topull out a big win! They certainly don’t have nay problems in the sand!

For the epic meeting of the Tuesday and Wednesday night teams it all came down to the two black teams! In the end St. Andrews Basketball was able to prove that not only do they play basketball but they are pretty darn good volleyball players too

The big story of Thursday nights is Tap Dat Pass. After a rocky start to the season the Red team was able to fight their way up to ultimate victory! After close matches in the first round they clenched three more close matches to emerge victorious over the first seed.

We’re excited to announce our second Sunday Summer Sand Volleyball League.

Season Information:

All Games will be played at Garfield Park in Capitol Hill on Sunday afternoon.  The schedule consists of 8 regular season games, followed by 1 week of playoffs.  The number of teams to make the playoffs will be determined at the start of the season.

Important Dates:

Early Registration Begins: Monday, June 13, 2011

Regular Registration Begins: Monday, June 20, 2011

First Shirt Order Cut-Off: Wednesday, July 6, 2011 @ noon

First Game: Sunday, July 17, 2011

Playoffs: Sunday, September 11, 2011

Volleyball Registration

Beetlejuice and Sets on the Beach showed up in full force, winning not one but both of their games and doing it with style and precision! This week certainly makes the season even more interesting and  with a bye week for Memorial Day weekend it should be interesting to see what happens next! Stay tuned!!!

Last night was full of great match-ups, and lots of games that went down to the wire and the championship game was no exception. Both Peace, Love and Dodgeball and the New Originals fought hard, and in the last game, with four wins under each team, the women battled it out with the mighty black team edging out the tie-dyed bunch in the final seconds.

Congratulations to all of the teams on a great season and a night of epics wins!

1. The New Originals- This team hasn’t been beat and I don’t think week 8 will be an exception. They come out strong, they come out hard and most of all they are fast as hell. Alex D (AKA, Alex #3) is a true commander of his army and they will definitely have the top seed going into the playoffs. Now if they can beat PLD will remain to be seen!

2.  Peace, Love and Dodgeball- Even with their loss last week to You Better Reconcile, I think this team has staying power and will be one of the last teams standing in the playoffs.

3. You Better Reconcile- After a little bit of a rocky start these guys are shining especially with their decisive victory over PLD last week. I think they have a chance to surprise some in the Playoffs.

4. The APPL- Another team who had a rocky start but seems to be another potential wild card in the playoffs. Their game against The New Originals in week 8 will be very telling.

5. Smack in The Face- A team that when they put their mind to something anything is possible, as evident by their victory over Smooth and Rubbery. It seem like that Rita’s has some magical properties that bring Purple to new heights.

6. Smooth and Rubbery- Not sure what happened here, they were solid and a team to be feared but lately they seem to be off. If they bring back their “A” game for the playoffs I think they have a shot but they need to step it up!

7. Dodgeball Militia Verde- I know they’re going to be upset with this ranking, and they are a talented team but like, S&R they seem to be losing their edge. Maybe they are saving it up for the playoffs. But with the embarrassing trouncing they got last week…eh?

8. The Thundering Yogatos- They still have some epic plays during games and have consistently been getting better each season but this was a rebuilding season for the team and it shows.

9. The Lactose Intolerables- These guys truly put up a fight and I think if they bring their “A” game they can beat Smack in the Face in week 8.

So this week I’m going to go along with the standings and add in a few caveats, one being that is is still really early in the season and the true  test of course is the playoffs.

1. I Got 99 Problems but a Beach Ain’t One- This is a solid team, and they have two things going for them. One, they are a larger-team so they are able to rotate frequently and not get as tired. This especially works for them on hot days when multiple games are played. Two, they have a volleyball coach on the team, and the coach is on fire! Now they haven’t played  the two other ranked teams yet so I’m looking forward to a good match up this week against the green team!

2. That’s the Way–uh huh, uh huh– We Spike It- Ok so the Kentucky Derby was two weeks ago, what happened to Tom this week? This is a solid team, they work well together and are looking like one of the teams to beat. They played hard and fast with the orange team this week and came out looking good, even if the orange team was playing down. A solid team.

3. It’s Just a Bump to the Left- This team gets extra kudos this week, yes they lost but they played hard and I mean really hard. They were playing with only 4 players on the court and they managed to get a game win in there against the mighty green team. If they have all of their team I think they could be a force to reckon with!

But as we all know each week is merely a preview to what the playoffs can look like, every team gets in so really its anyone’s ball of wax at this point.

It was the perfect day for volleyball, the sun was shining and the humidity wasn’t anywhere to be found and with team like “Beatlejuice, Beatlejuice, Beatlejuice” and “Sets on the Beach” how could we go wrong. Welcome to the first week of Sunday Volleyball Power Rankings! I will rank the top three teams of the week here each and every week.

1. “It’s Just a Bump to the Left”- Well they came out of the gate strong for a team who hasn’t ever played together before. Running the court, diving for balls and having serves that almost hang in mid-air before quickly crashing to the sand. This is a team to watch.

2. “I Got 99 Problems but a Beach Ain’t One”- The massive white team seemed to be a different team than the one that stopped by during the pick-up game the previous Sunday. And their Zach Morris guy is a strong competitor. Why the number 2 spot then? Well with such a big team I wonder if coordination will be an issue, so lets see them prove me wrong!

3. “That’s the Way–uh huh, uh huh– We Spike It”- The kiwis have some really strong players, with TJ, Jamie and Vlad bringing power and skill. The only hurdle I think is the fact that games are on Sundays, and the team will have to bring their “A” game after fun Saturday nights…ahem Tom, ahem. Hydrate!!!
